Rambling about games.
Hmm, I forgot to write here for a while. I got busy with my games, work, and RL stuff. My main focus in games are: FGO, Obey Me! (both the OG game and Nightbringer), HSR, and occasionally FFXIV and Arknights.
Ever since the Bozja sidequest, I haven't really been interested in FFXIV. Cid's portrayal there was just that bad, and since Cid's my favorite character in FFXIV... Well, that means that unless Cid is a prominent character (and at this point, he's just a side character), I won't have much interest in FFXIV's story. And let's be real. Cid's role in that sidequest could have been replaced by Nero. In fact, you could argue that Nero would make more sense than Cid, but Cid is an old fan favorite.
I still enjoy some of the story, but FFXIV is back to the "well, I don't care what happens anymore." This is how I treated FFXIV during 2.0 launch, and honestly, it's nice to take a break from FFXIV here and there. It helps manage my expectations so I don't get too disappointed too much if the story somehow becomes lame. And believe me, this has happened multiple times already starting with the end of ARR just before Heavensward.
Arknights is a genuinely interesting game, but I don't really have the time to put more effort into it. I just login for some of the dailies, send clues to friends, and log out.
HSR is in that weird position of, "The gameplay isn't super exciting, but it's entertaining enough. I don't care about the story though." Also you can auto-battle for the stuff that's easy. Is it weird to say that I mostly enjoy building the characters I have, more than anything else in the game? I don't care about the story that much (I'm also not caught up with the main story), but I do like March 7th and Dan Heng.
So yeah, I play HSR mostly because I like improving my characters. I suppose it's also interesting to see what China in space would look like from their perspective. It is certainly different from a Euro-centric perspective, and I enjoy seeing the differences.
Regarding Obey Me!... It's been over a year since I started playing the OG Obey Me! game. I still don't like how they've monetized Obey Me! for both the OG game and Nightbringer which is why I've refused to sign up for their VIP subscription. I just don't like it. So that limits me to just buying their currency packs if I need it or if there's a good discount sale. That's fine by me, and honestly that's my preferred method if I want to support a mobile game.
Sadly, I don't think they can really change it either because obviously they've managed to make enough profit to keep the game alive and are able to keep making merchandise, and such. So it obviously works.
Anyway, Obey Me! is one of my favorite games currently because of the characters. The story can get good, but it's also been notoriously bad in places. So the only reason why I keep playing is more for being able to read the story, and have my favorite character (Luci) romance me, haha. I should probably try to write down some short stories I have for this universe before I forget.
Lastly, FGO. I still think FGO has some of the best stories in a game, though there are some places where the story isn't all that great. (I mean, who liked Septem? No one.) But I don't like the overall themes in story arc 2 (the Lostbelts) as much as story arc 1 even though in terms of story quality, story arc 2 is (usually) consistently good.
That said, I don't expect to stop playing FGO until story arc 2 is finished at least. The main story is good enough to continue, and I still have some short stories I'd like to transfer from my Tumblr to my writing journal on Dreamwidth. Which means I'm probably playing FGO for at least 2 more years. I guess we'll see how the story develops after the story arc with the Lostbelts ends.
So yeah, that's pretty much all I have to say about the games I currently play. Maybe I'll write more about some small details in each game if I feel like it.
